Mixing chalk paint – create your own individual shades
With Annie Sloan chalk paints, you can not only start painting straight away but also mix your own custom color. The paints are highly pigmented and can be easily combined with one another – for individual shades that perfectly match your style and project.

Our paints are not only easy to apply, but also simple to wash out. For brushes used with chalk paint, warm water is sufficient. For wax, lacquer, or Annie Sloan Satin Paint, we recommend using an additional mild dish soap. A standard commercial product will suffice – keeping your brushes clean and ready for use for a long time.

Preventing bleed-through – how to reliably block stains
Some types of wood such as oak, teak, or tropical wood contain high levels of tannic acid (tannin). In combination with water-based chalk paint, this can lead to yellowish stains – known as bleed-through. To prevent this, a primer or shellac is recommended as a protective layer. This keeps your paint finish beautiful and uniform – without any unsightly discoloration. This is particularly visible with light shades – such as white, cream, or soft pastel tones.
