    Applying Decoupage Paper

Transform furniture and decor into creative, one-of-a-kind pieces with decoupage paper! Easy to apply, durable, and vibrant—perfect for embellishing your favorite items.

    How to achieve the look

    Prepare the substrate

Before you begin decoupage, consider whether you would like to paint the surface beforehand. The background may show through. A white primer can help make the colors of the decoupage paper appear more vibrant. If you are working with glass, make sure to clean the surface thoroughly. This is how you optimally prepare everything for your creative project!

    Prepare paper cutouts

Before you begin measuring and cutting, first iron the creases out of the decoupage paper, as it is delivered folded. Set your iron or garment steamer to the lowest setting and carefully go over the creases until the paper is smooth. You can then measure the motif and either cut it out or carefully tear it out, depending on the design.

    Apply adhesive

To adhere and seal the decoupage paper, you can use Decoupage Image Medium or clear varnish.

After you have cut the paper to size, apply a layer of glue/varnish directly onto the surface where you want to attach the paper. You should use enough glue, but do not apply it too thickly.

    Glue on the paper cutout

    Remove excess

    Seal

    Your découpage project is finished!

Done! With découpage paper, you have given your piece of furniture a completely new look. Whether you are decorating individual surfaces or—as with our chest of drawers—making an entire front the focal point: paper allows you to implement patterns and motifs that would hardly be possible with paint alone.

Découpage looks particularly beautiful in combination with a matching chalk paint that picks up on the motif and turns the furniture into a harmonious whole.

    Decoupage Paper:
Decoupage paper is a thin, flexible paper specifically developed for use in the decoupage process. It has a smooth surface and is easy to apply. Perfectly suited for decoration projects where precise patterns and designs are desired. As it is made of paper, it may tear during processing.

    Rice Paper:
Rice paper is particularly thin and lightweight, yet robust at the same time. It is excellent for decorations with soft transitions and detailed patterns. Due to its translucency, it is ideal for projects where the surface underneath should remain visible through the paper.

    Fiber Paper:
Fiber paper has a stronger texture and is particularly durable. It works well for projects where a more structured, robust material is required. It is also easy to print on and is ideal for larger surfaces or projects that require more durability.
