Transfer photos onto wood? With the photo transfer technique, you can create creative gifts & personalized decor. It’s easy with our step-by-step guide.
To create a rustic charm, you can stain the wooden board to your taste. We chose the organic wood stain in dark walnut, which gives the project a warm touch.
To show your photo to its best advantage, paint the background with a light color – preferably white. Here we are using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White. Let the paint dry well.
For the photo transfer, you need a laser printout. Prints from an inkjet printer unfortunately do not work, as the ink dissolves when exposed to water. Trim the edges with scissors or dampen them slightly with water and pluck them for a more natural look.
NOTE:For designs featuring text or lettering, the image should be mirrored before printing!
Apply the découpage or transfer medium generously to the front of the photo. Ensure that the glue does not get on the back of the paper, as this can interfere with the transfer.
Finally, protect the photo with clear soft wax to seal it.
With this technique, there are no limits to what you can do! Transfer photos, artwork, or quotes and create unique gifts for weddings, christenings, or for grandparents at Christmas.
Have fun crafting!

Yes, you can also use other materials for photo transfer such as MDF, canvas, ceramics, or even fabric. Make sure the surface is smooth, clean, and dry to achieve the best results. Different materials may require slight adjustments to the technique or drying time, but the basic principles remain the same.
Yes, but make sure to mirror the image before printing. This way, the text will be displayed correctly after the transfer.
