Decorating a mini chest of drawers – with gold leaf & transfer foil

Decorate a small wooden chest of drawers to create a stylish jewelry box. Refine it in style and according to your own taste using transfer foil & gold leaf.

    How to achieve the look

    Mix paint

For our jewelry box, we created a custom shade using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, inspired by the trending color “Peach Fuzz.” Here is our recipe:
    2 parts Scandinavian Pink
    1 part Arles
    2 parts Old Ochre
    1 part Original

Tip: If you want to mix your own shade, start with small amounts, such as a teaspoon. Once the mixing ratio meets your preferences, you can scale up the amounts.

Carefully paint the box in the desired color and let the paint dry completely.

    Apply gilding size

Brush the surfaces you wish to embellish with metal leaf with gold size. You will notice a slight blue shimmer while applying it. Let the adhesive dry until this shimmer has disappeared. Don't worry, you have plenty of time – the adhesive will remain tacky even hours later.

    Apply metal leaf

    Remove excess gold leaf

    Apply transfer tape

    Your jewelry box is ready!

Done! With paint, découpage, and special accents, you have turned a simple box into a little gem. Especially on small pieces of furniture, different techniques can be wonderfully combined and creatively explored.

    Tips & FAQs

You can use any chalk paint you like. Experiment with different shades to create an individual look. Also, check out our mixing recipes to achieve trendy colors.

Gold size usually takes about 5-10 minutes to dry until the blue sheen disappears. However, you also have several hours to apply the metal leaf, as the size remains active even after that.

You can save the remnants of the metal leaf and use them for future projects. Simply collect them in a tin to reuse them for your next crafting session.
