Painting kitchen cabinets with satin paint

Your kitchen is the heart of your home and has to withstand a lot in everyday life. With Annie Sloan Satin Paint, you not only give your cabinets a modern look, but also an extremely durable finish. In this guide, we show you how to achieve perfect adhesion through light sanding, creating a long-lasting, wipeable result. Best of all: no additional sealing with wax or lacquer is necessary – your paint is ready for everyday kitchen use as soon as it is dry.

    How to achieve the look

    Clean

Completely remove grease and dirt using soapy water or a degreaser. Rinse with clear water and allow everything to dry completely. Important: An absolutely grease-free surface is the fundamental requirement for the paint to adhere perfectly.

    Sanding & Preparation

Remove handles and fittings. Important: Lightly sand the surfaces with fine sandpaper to ensure optimal adhesion for the paint. Thoroughly remove the sanding dust afterwards. Mask hinges and edges with painter's tape.

Stir the colored lacquer well. Apply the paint in thin layers using a brush or a foam roller.

Tip: For the kitchen backsplash, you can use the color-coordinated, scrub-resistant Wall Paint by Annie Sloan to round off the design.

    Drying & Loading

Allow the surfaces to dry thoroughly between coats. Additional sealing is not necessary.

Note: Everything is touch-dry after 24 hours. However, wait 10–14 days before the first intensive cleaning to allow the surface to reach its full hardness.

    Tips & FAQs

Yes, for Annie Sloan satin paint, a light sanding is important. This slightly roughens the surface, which provides the paint with optimal adhesion. A complete sanding down to the bare wood is not necessary, however – a gentle roughening is perfectly sufficient.

As a rule, you will achieve a perfectly opaque and even result with two thin coats. The colored lacquer is highly pigmented and quickly creates a smooth, modern surface.

The lacquer is surface-dry after a few hours and touch-dry after 24 hours. However, complete mechanical curing takes about 10 to 14 days. During this time, you should treat the fronts with some care and avoid aggressive cleaning.
