    Painting Leather & Faux Leather

Does your beloved leather armchair have stains or does the color no longer match your new decor? No reason to get rid of it! Whether it's real leather or faux leather: You can easily recolor upholstered furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The paint remains supple after application and gives your piece of furniture a whole new lease on life.

    How to achieve the look

    Preparation & Abrading

First, wipe the piece of furniture down with a damp cloth and some soapy water to remove grease and dirt.

Lightly roughen the surface with fine sandpaper (grit approx. 120) or a sanding fleece. This will help the paint adhere much better. Afterwards, thoroughly remove the resulting dust with a slightly damp cloth and let everything dry well.

The first coat of paint (primer)

Dilute the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for the first coat with about 10–15% water. This significantly improves adhesion to the faux leather and ensures a very even coat of paint. Apply this mixture thinly and evenly with a brush. Don’t worry if the first coat does not yet provide perfect coverage – just let it dry completely first.

    Intermediate sanding

After the first coat has dried completely, lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper (approx. 240 grit). This will smooth out small imperfections and leave the surface feeling pleasantly even. Afterward, thoroughly remove the sanding dust.
