    Ombré Effect

Add fresh accents to your home with the popular ombré technique! The harmonious color gradients from light to dark create soft transitions—ideal for walls, furniture, or decor. With a little paint and inspiration, you can design creative surfaces that bring life and depth to your rooms.

    How to achieve the look

    Prepare and clean

Before you begin painting, prepare your furniture. Remove all handles and hinges, and take off drawers and doors to make the process easier. Clean the surface with soapy water to remove dust and dirt – harsh chemicals are not necessary. Cover areas that should not be painted with masking tape.

    Apply dark color

To achieve the ombre effect, begin with a thin layer of the darker chalk paint on the lower part of your furniture and brush in all directions. Then, apply the second, lighter color to the top half of the piece, working in various movements as well. Repeat this step until each color provides good coverage. Now that the colors are still clearly defined, it is time to blend them gently!

    Paint an ombre effect

Start where the two colors meet and gently blend them into each other using two brushes. For an even, linear ombré effect, always work with both colors horizontally from left to right and back again. If, however, you prefer a softer, rounder gradient – for example, light in the center and darker towards the outside – circular motions are more suitable.

If the paint dries too quickly while blending, you can lightly moisten the surface with a fine mist. This keeps the paint workable for longer and makes it easier to blend into one another.

    Seal with wax

    Your ombré furniture is ready!

Color with a seamless transition: By gently blending the shades, a vibrant ombré look has been created that makes your piece of furniture a real eye-catcher. Depending on the colors you combine, the effect can be subtle and harmonious or bold and expressive.

    Tips & FAQs

You can use almost any color combination for the ombré effect. Ideal choices are colors that harmonize well, such as soft pastel tones or contrasting colors that offer a striking transition. Experiment with different combinations to achieve the perfect look.

It is recommended to use at least two brushes: one for the first color and one for the second. This allows you to apply the colors precisely and to blend and create the transition between them more effectively.

Start by working on the area where the colors meet using the first brush. Use the second brush to gently blend the second color into the first. Work in opposite directions to create a harmonious transition. If the paint dries too quickly while blending, you can lightly moisten it with a fine mist. This keeps it workable for longer and makes it easier to smudge.
