    Venetian Plaster

This special spatula technique gives your walls the charm of old houses – raw, vibrant, and full of depth. The layered application creates a rustic look reminiscent of crumbling plaster, fitting perfectly with vintage, boho, or industrial interiors. Perfect for anyone looking to add personality and patina to their wall texture.

    How to achieve the look

    Apply base coat

Start with an even base coat for your wall or piece of furniture. Apply a first layer of chalk paint in your desired base tone. This color will later form the background for the various color layers and can remain visible in certain areas.

Allow the base color to dry completely before you begin building up the texture.

    Establishing initial structures

Now the typical Venetian plaster look begins. Using a spatula or a sturdy piece of cardboard, apply a second color irregularly to the dry base surface. Work with short, overlapping strokes, varying the pressure and direction.

The base color should still remain visible in places. This creates initial variations in texture and color depth.

Tip:If your chalk paint is very runny, you can place it in the refrigerator or a cool place for a short time before application. This will make it slightly firmer and easier to apply with texture.

    Add color and depth

Now, gradually incorporate additional shades into the existing structure. Apply them selectively to individual areas, layering them over colors that have already been applied. Various shades of gray, beige, or blue, for example, create a mineral, naturally aged character.

It is important that no clearly defined color areas are created. Let the shades blend into one another and prefer to work in several thin layers until you are satisfied with the overall result.

Your Venetian plaster surface is finished!

Layer by layer, a surface has been created that thrives on color, texture, and small irregularities. Depending on which shades you combine and how heavily you apply them, your Venetian plaster can appear calm and mineral-like, elegant with metallic accents, or surprisingly colorful.

And the best part: no two surfaces will be exactly the same – that is precisely what gives this technique its special character.
